Maeve, who's Native American and originally from New York, was born within the state of New York. She is part Blackfoot and part Cherokee. Her first appearance on screen was in the short film of 2005 Liminality. Also, she made her big screen debut in 2005 when she appeared on the critically-acclaimed drama comedy Transamerica. The same season she also made her TV debut on a fourth season episode in the show Law & Order Criminal Intent. She was a part of the Dick Wolf's Chicago franchise in 2014 under the name Nadia Decotis, Chicago P.D. . The character was portrayed by her between 2011 and 2015 before reprising the role for the role in Law & Order Special Victims Unit that is a different television series created produced by Wolf. The same year, she started acting as Julia Wicker the lead female in the Syfy's fantasy show The Magicians. Stella Maeve continued acting in independent films, while establishing her own career as a TV actress. Stella Maeve was awarded the Robert Altman award at the 2013 Film Independent Spirit Awards for her performance in the film Starlet which was released in 2012.
